LUKE 303 NORTH SEWER TRUNK MAIN
Project Owner: EPCOR Water
Project Type: Design-Bid-Build
Construction Dates: 08/19 to 08/20
This project included the installation of more than 6.5 miles (34,530 LF) of PVC gravity sewer main (15” to 30”) and 74 manholes adjacent to Luke Air Force Base and the Loop 303. The installation required excavations up to 32 feet in depth with sandy soil conditions. The project also included three jack and bores under Northern Parkway, a drainage culvert, and a railroad spur. A total of 430 LF of steel casings (42” to 54”) was used for the jack and bores and the loose soil necessitated using slide rail for the pits, and much of the bores required hand tunneling. Coordination was required with area farmers to ensure that their irrigation services continued undisturbed while the project progressed: this scope included bypass, removal/replacement, and protection in place of existing irrigation facilities. The project also included the removal/replacement of more than 24,000 SY of roadway in both Maricopa County and City of Glendale jurisdictions.
